Grue, A magical alternative Christmas adventure in the Old Parcels Office in Scarborough in December 2021. Grue took its name from an historic word for snow or shiver and was a festive walk-through experience taking families on a journey through forest, town, sea and sky.

Community members got involved in the project by attending building sessions - creative, relaxed and fun workshops. Here they built cardboard houses, trees and walls which all became part of the final experience. Templates and advice were provided by world-class artist Steve Wintercroft, so no experience was necessary.
Grue was designed to be as accessible as possible, with a ‘Pay What You Can’ entrance fee, and a wheelchair accessible venue. The experience was designed to be intimate, with only 6 people booked per slot. With plenty to marvel at and discover, visitors were also given the opportunity to make their own decoration at the end of the experience, cuppa in hand.
Built by the community and made entirely out of recycled and repurposed materials, the 20-minute final walkthrough experience delivered a clear message about what is possible with a bit of imagination and your leftover Christmas packaging.
